| This is probably a pretty simple questions, as I am a beginner, but I wondered why something happened during my first visit to a poker table at my local casino. It was $1-5 limit stud and someone before me had bet a dollar on fourth street. When the action came to me with only limpers in, I put down three dollars and said I raise two dollars, and the dealer said I could only raise one, because my raise needed to be equal to the raise amount the last raise was. Is that true? It seemed kinda funny to me. | ||

| I have never heard of this rule. Typically the problem comes up in reverse. A player raises $3 and then someone tries to reraise by another $1 when the raise MUST be by at least the amount of the initial raise. I'd be very surprised if there is a casino that does not allow someone to raise by more than the initial raise. But then I'm easily surprised. Could you tell us which casino this is. Thanks. | Well it was the Ameristar in Kansas City. Considering your disbelief, I am starting to wonder if I made a mistake, but at least your overwhelming opinion, makes me feel more correct in my understanding of poker rules...so thanks for the help. | ||

| I have often been held to completeing a raise of a all in bettor rather than being able to reraise other bettors the full amount. example on 5th street in a 5 chip game I bet out with 10's full and a player raises all in for 3 more chips . A third player calls the partial raise. I want to reraise it to 3 full bets AND the three odd chips. I am told all I can raise it to is the 3 full bets. which I do and the 3rd player calls. He goes on to hit a 3 outer on the river to beat me on a 30 bet pot. The all in bettor (who incidentally had the 3rd player beat till the river as well ) was of course chushed by my hand much less than the 3rd players 3 out A's full. | ||
