I recently relocated to Table Rock Lake in southwest Missouri -- the Ozarks. I wrote a column for Gambling Times Magazine about my "search for poker in the Ozarks." It's amazing how little people around here understand the game. It's refreshing, though -- and, as a group, these are the finest people I've ever befriended. Naturally, I've decided to put a Mike Caro University of Poker, Gambling, and Life Strategy "campus" here. I'm even planning a major seminar. Do you think anyone will come? I'll be interested to hear what you discover. Straight Flushes, Mike Caro

I just wanted to know for research purposes what exists. I'm here (actually I still have a home in Los Angeles, too) because I like being a hermit in a forest on a lake. You're right, I got tired of the California lifestyle. I'm talking to lots of animals and, so far, they agree with every single thing I've told them about poker. Straight Flushes, Mike Caro

| Mike, that is near Branson, is it not? Since Branson has become so commercialized, I presume there is an airport nearby. Also, hotel accommodations would be available in Branson. Speaking for myself only, I would be interested. BTW, I like your new web site. I already have it bookmarked. Don Quixote on 29. Jan 2003 15:44 Mike Caro wrote: > on 29. It will be my new home for everything... a place to put up all my latest poker lectures, musings, social ramblings, broodings, photos, everything. You'll see. They'll be no end to it. But there's a starter library there already -- and it's pretty extensive. You can always get there without a bookmark by just clicking poker info, odds, or dictionary below. Yes, Branson is very touristy -- the area is the major tourist destination for mid-US, but you never hear about it in L.A. or New York. Just fly-over country. Eureka Springs (19 miles from the MCU Ozarks campus) is also a major tourist attraction. Straight Flushes, Mike Caro | ||

| Welcome to Missouri, Mike. I live in a St. Louis suburb and this is where I play low-limit Hold'em. I would probably be interested in a poker seminar down there. I have your book and all of your videotapes and am currently doing the "12 Days" program which brings me to my question: Since your "12 Days to Hold'em Success" was published in 1987, I am wondering if there are any changes that you would make to the program today considering any new developments in the game or in your philosophy since then? I am currently on Mission 5 and am enjoying it very much, but I noticed that some of the concepts are quite different from the other authors I have read. Thanks in advance, Jimbo | ||

I'm planning a 30-day book version for the not-too-distant future. If you'd like e-mail notification of all my seminars, new products, and other events, plus poker tips, just send a blank e-mail to caro-on@mail-list.com. I'd enloy having you and others to the Ozarks for a major seminar. Straight Flushes, Mike Caro

I am really looking forward to the 30-day book version (please hurry!) because I have found the 12-day program to be extremely valuable. I have subscribed to the list and will look forward to meeting you in person in Southern Missouri at one of your seminars. Thanks, Jimbo St. Louis area

| Mike, you're welcome in our game anytime. My friends and I play in Independence (outside Kansas City, MO), though I don't think you want to, because we're still beginners, trying to help each other learn more about the game, so we buy in with five bucks and play no limit Hold 'em with nickle, dime, and quarter chips. Sad, I know, but we're paying off student loans and I can't even afford to move out of my parent's basement yet. We are reasonably intelligent players, though, and could surely hold our own in low-limit casino games. We read all the books we can about poker and share information with each other. So we would be very interested in any seminars or lectures you were giving in the area. I've looked around poker1.com and can't find any information on upcoming events. Where should I go to find this information? Also, if there are any experienced players in the area looking for a person/group of people to sort of... mentor, we'd love to hear from you. Thanks, Steve Ward | ||

| Leave me a reply with a few days notice when you might be visiting the Ameristar poker room in KC, and I'll try to hook up with some of you there. I'm there often enough, but have been taking time off recently and am not playing every day right now. I assume you're over 21 since you mention that you think you could break even in a 3-6 game. If nothing else, we could go to the buffet and chat for awhile. I'm NOT looking to get in your home game. | ||

| Andrew, Thanks for the offer, I'll try and get up there in the next couple weeks, probably a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. I'll probably bring my friend Jon with me. He and I are the most serious (and best) players in our circle. I'll let you know before hand. We've spent some time watching the tables up there, but have yet to sit down. I plan on giving it a go pretty soon though. | ||

| Saturday afternoons are generally better than Sunday. Problem is that extra dealers don't arrive until 4:00. So by 2:30 or so, there can be a long list especially with 3-6 and a must move game. You will find regular low limit players, and players waiting for 10-20 Omaha-8 or 15-30 hold'em at the 3-6 tables. By late afternoon, it is usually just typical low limit players though. The 1-5 stud games are steady all the time, but the rake is excessive and the players are generally experienced. I would avoid stud unless you are waiting for a hold'em seat. I suggest you wait until the main game has stabilized by about 12:00 and play in the first must move game instead. Give me advance notice, and I'll look out for you and your friend. Just ask the floor where I am, either Shea or Bill should be working that shift. | ||

| Well me and Pokerroom's GoldenHawk have been talking about a homegame for some time (he's from KY, about 3 hours from St. Louis) I can ask around at St Lou's Ameristar if i ever get back there I don't have too many connections there but who can resist to play a home game with Mike Caro? depends on what kind of home game you want I suppose, Woldt77 did ask for lower limit, but if you want some high limit i'll just organize it somewhat. Is your move to the Ozarks perm? Just can't get enough of Silver Dollar city huh. Oh and almost certainly count me and the girlfriend and maybe some others in at MCU, YOU'LL DEFINATELY have to market it in St Louis and um i think the other closest casino is corouthersville or something like that, I grew up in SouthEast MO and homegames above the .25c region are like the holy grail | ||
