| I have read a little about probability and how to calculate certain scenarios. I would be grateful if someone could explain to me how to work out the probability of say Ace spades, 5 hearts beating King diamonds, 10 clubs in a showdown with all 5 cards shown. Really what I am interested in is the formula for this so I can apply this to other similar situations, Thanks, Terry O'Neill. | ||

| I always use the following web site for such computations: http://www.twodimes.net/poker/ The actual way to calculate would be to take all possible outcomes, and split into winning, losing and tying. | ||

| i know a little bit about statistics, can someone explain (or give me a good source) how i can calculate specific situations with a calculator (with statistics functions). I am mostly interested in knowing how to calculate my odds of making a hand in stud when i have X cards to a straight/flush/trips, with Y cards to come and Z cards dead. thanks, -NIcomon | ||

| The way to do this is to calculate all the possible hands, and then calculate all the hands which As-5h, would lose to Kd-10c. I don't know if this can be done analytically. So using some sort of poker calulator, which does it by brute force is probably your best bet. However, if you really wanted you'd start by looking at all the possible boards with a K or 10 and no A and no pair of 5's; then, all the boards that make a straight for your opponent, and not you; then, a flush for your oppenent, and so. With a little thinking you can probably narrow down the number of things you have to calculate, but it's way difficult. If anyone had an analytic way of doing this I'd love to hear about it. p. on 25. Jan 2003 12:06 Terry O'Neill wrote: > I have read a little about probability and how to calculate certain scenarios.
