| Last night I paid for a lesson at the Hold'em tables. I am basically a novice card player who is doing his best to improve his game. Last night while waiting for a seat at the 5-10 table I took an available seat at a 3-6 table. What I failed to notice till after my session was over is how my mind wondered during the game. I wasn't concentrating on the game or my play. This in turn dulled my mind for the bigger game. I have found that I seem to play the best in bigger games (more focused and aware). I know how to beat the loose low limit game but it just couldn't hold my concentration. Has anyone else found this to be true. Also, any suggestions on mental warm ups before a game would be appriciated. Brent | ||

| Great post! I struggle with the same factors you mention when I am playing online. I email, post here, read, and it hurts my game. I've got a pretty good handle on the focus and concentration issue while playing live. I used to get dreadfully bored playing Hold 'Em and lose focus. I would start playing robotically, not paying attention to anything other than my cards. The key for me to break this habit was to take small breaks. Skip a hand or a round once in a while. Get up, walk around, get some fresh air and deep breaths. When you get back to the table, think about the game you are in, how your opponents are playing and how they percieve you. Get your head right. Sort of like a hitter stepping out of the batter's box to regroup. Think about staying sharp and paying attention. That's what worked for me. I will still play tired/bored/distracted if the game is good enough! dc | ||

| Thanks Dan, I have a tough time getting up from the table and walking away. The next game I am in I will work on keeping my focus and make myself take breaks. Thanks for the suggestions. Brent | ||
