Foxwoods v. Mohegan Sun, Ezra, 23. Jan 2003 09:30

I am planning a trip to Foxwoods and/or Mohegan Sun next month to play poker ($5-$10 holdem) and was wondering how the two rooms compared. Is play better (looser, tighter, more aggressive) at one or the other?

I am also planning to the play the Saturday morning tournament at one or the other as well.

Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

Good question. The answer is, "it depends what you like."

Foxwoods has a kill at $100 on 5/10. The Sun has a kill at $60. So if you like 10/20 better than 5/10, play at the Sun.

Generally, play in both rooms is fairly loose. Of course, this varies, depending on how many regulars and tourists fill each table. However, the trend is loose to the point of frustrating. Bring some extra changes of attitude, if you don't like bad beats.

Tournaments are very different. The buy in is the source for the difference, I think. Foxwoods has a much hgiher buy in. In my experience, I've seen better play at the Foxwoods tournaments than at the Sun. Since both are competing for the same crowd (Limit Hold'em) on Saturday morning, expect some really good comps for playing. Foxwoods offers 10 Wompum points, which equals the $10 entry fee, and the Sun offers an $8 food voucher as well as comp points, which is higher than the $7 entry fee.

Good luck.
