| hey mike, i have enjoyed your audio lesson series so far. one question on this particular lesson--the biggest problem i've found with dominated hands like KJ, QT, and so forth is that you tend to either win small pots or give up a lot of bets with a second-best hand. is this just my imagination? maybe i'm just unlucky or something? | ||

Hi, Charles -- You are absolutely correct. That's the reason why you often can continue to bet with hands where your kicker is the highest possible, but must often back off with weaker kickers. Kickers are very important. But the fear of domination can become an obsession. It can cause you not to play hands against loose opponents that are clearly profitable, for fear of being out-kicked. | I enjoyed this lesson audio lesson also. It did a good job of convincing you to look at the issue from a different perspective. I found that I tended to 'remember' the times I played QJ or KQ and it lost to AQ or AJ rather than look at the total win/loss on the hands. Against looser opponents, throwing these 'dominated' hands away costs money and fun. Against someone who only dusts off their chips for AK or AQ, they are easy to let go. | ||
