I am trying internet poker again. I was wondering what you guys feel the lowest limit is where a player can win consistently. I know this all depends on the texture of the game, opponents play, etc.; but what I am actually asking is more related to rake structure. In a 1-2 holdem game the rake is a dollar maximum. That's 5 big bets per round. Do you guys feel that leaves enough for a player to win consistently. I would like to play at lower limits like this and build an 'internet bankroll'; but I don't want to be spinning my wheels at a game where there isn't enough left over to be profitable.

I just returned to online again. My game has improved since last summer and I am now winning instead of losing. I am just playing $.50 & $1.00 for now but I started last week with $1.00 in my account from last July and got lucky and came 2nd in $1 tourney won $30.
As of last night I have a bankroll of $239.00. That represents 10 days 2 sessions a day 2-3 hrs a session. Somewhere around 50 hrs play.
Limit HE @ a little over 4 BB hr I realise I am probably on a run.
But I have tried a new strategy and it seems to be working well for me.
1. Set session time and stick to it.
2. Buy in for normal table amount ($25.00)
3. If I loose the $25.00 session over, (take a break come back later.
4. If I get over $50.00 on the table end the session as soon as I start to lose money or my time is up. (no excuses).
5. Quit looking at chips as money and just play the best game I am capable of. (Good starters, no chasing anything, bet aggresively when I think I have the best of it, stop thinking everyone is bluffing me).
6. Look out for good players and avoid bumping heads with them.
7 Most important "Enjoy the game, and be plesant".

Hope this helps.

I play low-limit 1-2. I am still learning and still paying my education money. Getting better every month and am now actually building up a bankroll.
i started 0.5-1 $ limit and when i was over $300 went a level higher. Build that up to $600 and played the $ 2-4 game.
Had a bad run and i am back at $1-2.

My experience so far that every level is beatable. Only the higher you get the harder a bad beat cuts in to your bankroll. But people play just as bad/good and you will get beaten by the most ugliest cards.
Still if your bankroll is big enough you will beat these players in the long run.

I am not a big fan of setting time or money-limits for yourself, if the game is good don't leave. If you are not happy playing....leave.
And.....don't drink while playing that is what cost me the most money over the years.

All the best of luck,

tommyhawk.
