| I would like to hear others thoughts from other areas on how poker in live environments has changed since Sept 11. Roy Cooke | ||

| Right after 9/11 things were very tight and not alot of selection here in the Riverside, San Diego area. There were virtually no recreational players. Now things have turned around. I think that there are even more people getting involved in poker and the action has gotten better. It seems like everyone has become more aware of just how precious life is, and starting to enjoy life a little bit more. I see alot more new faces just about everyday. Hector | ||

| Good question. I notice that a few players who were Indian (not Native Americans) or Arab 'looking' stopped coming to the cardroom. Some still do, but there are a few folks who I don't see anymore and I wonder if it is related to 9/11. I notice there seems to be an increased tolerance for the use of racial slurs like "towel head" in public places these days. The terms are often muttered at a 'just audible' level and do not garner the rebukes something offensive like that used to garner. It's sad really. I believe that the vast majortiy of Arabs, Indians, Muslims, and other people of Middle Eastern descent in this country are here because they support the US. They work, they raise their families, they pay taxes. They are not our enemy, but I can sure see how they are made to feel that way sometimes. I remember soon after 9/11 occurred, a dealer in one of the games I was playing in made the following comment: "We can solve the problem just by killing all the Muslims. Every one of them." He said this out loud and to the table in general. (This dealer is a moron and is no longer employed there). I looked around and saw no one agreeing or rebuking him and play went on. I just shook my head. He didn't say "Kill terrorists" or "Kill Al-Qaida". He said "Kill Muslims." I never toked that dealer again and he was gone soon after. Overall, I think attendance and gameplay is the same now as pre-9/11, but some of the faces have definitely changed, and it's too bad. | ||

| I figured in areas where there is a higher concentration of people at Middle Eastern descent, there would not be any changes. I also doubt dealers are pontificating about "Killing all Muslims" while in the box! | ||
