| I am faily new to playing Hold em and have been playing the play money tables on Pokerroom for a couple of weeks. I have finished Krieger's book and am reading Jones's book. However, in the amazon reviews of Jones's book, one person said it doesn't apply to internet poker. I know that I can't value those opinions too well, but I DO know that everyone says internet poker is different. So... I'm wondering what the best way to get started on internet poker is. I'm planning on just reading Jones's book for a while and practice online for a while. Is there a better way to go by this or a better book to read? I'm directing my questions towards semi-newcomers who have been succesful online. I read Daniel Mathew's thread, so maybe he can answer my question. | ||

| Yes by all means Jone's book make sense for all low limit poker online or otherwise. I have been playing poker for about 3 years and most of it online, and it helped me emensely. But be sure you graduate after you get that down to HEFAP, by Sklansky before you start moving into the 10/20 realm. GL and be selective! Z | ||

| Hi Mike The strategy of Internet poker is the same as live, however you cannot see your opponents and the ability to read is greatly reduced. However online poker is a great learning tool as they have hand histories and you can go back and see your opponents cards (assuming they called). It makes for a quicker learning pace! | Been playing online for about 2 yrs and still consider myself a rank novice. Based on my "limited" experience, it is my opinion that play money games are fine for those who want to socialize but are a waste of time if you want to seriously learn how to play poker. Play money is of no real value anyone and those players are not playing like the real competition of a real money game. Although you will find that turning $1000 of play money into $10000 in a few weeks is not difficult, you will wonder why you're constantly getting your butt kicked every time you venture into the real money world. Planet Poker offers the lowest limits I'm aware of at .05/.10 and .25.50 games. I would highly recommend this approach as a very low risk way to learn the game and how real poker competition plays. If you can build a larger bankroll at one limit, than consider stepping up to the next one but be forwarned, the higher the limits the better the players be prepared for new lessons but at a tuition you can afford. | ||

| i'm a avid poker player for the past 45 years or better and i can only say one thing is that online poker poses only a profit for the people who run the program site. i have tried playing poker online but to no avail. i cant honestly say that you can't learn much from on line poker. | ||

| If you are interested in learning and don't mind laying out $90 or so for software, I recommend Turbo Texas Hold'em. I bought it and have been playing hands regularly on it. I realize the best way to learn is by actually playing in a real cardroom with real people, but this software is teaching me some of the mechanics of playing Hold'em poker. With the basic down, I can better concenttrate on reading others and discovering tells. | ||
