I've been playing in a 15/30 hold em game. I had been making $30 an hour in the game, but over the last 2 months I have been getting killed. I play solid for 6 days and on the 7th day I lose my entire earnings that week and then some.
I feel like the competition has gotten tougher, or do I need to change my play or loss limit. In the past when I have been stuck I have been able to recover.
Lately my losses have become significant and I lose over $2000. How much is too much to lose in a single session?

Hi KS

The answer is it depends. Are you losing because you lose emotional control. If so then a stop loss limit may be a good idea. If the competition has got tougher and you are no longer a favorite in the game, you should find another game that is softer.

I base my decisions on when to leave on either personel reasons, the game has gotten tougher, I'm tired, or I don't feel like playing anymore.

If I am stuck and still playing well against soft competition, I set no loss or time limits (Although I do not play if dead tired).

a Hypotheticle question; Its the end of a long day at a 10/20 table.
you are about 10 bets a head and decide to leave before the next blind.
UR underthegun and u look at AA. U play the hand and lose. U R now back to even for the day. Do you go ahead and leave or sit back down for a possible 8/ 10 hrs?? how would you play it??

Hello

I look at poker as a long run game and compartmentalize my results by the month. That stops me from making decisions based on the cards of the moment. I do not make decisions on how I am doing unless it will have a psycological effect on me. I would not decide to leave because I am 10 bets ahead and would not stay because I blew them back.

I make my decisions to stay or leave based on how I am playing, the quality of my opponents or personel reasons. In short I make the decision based on my edge! If it is high I will stick around longer...If it is low I will tend to leave.

Roy or whomever else might know the answers,
A few personal questions if you don't mind me asking...
You stop or continue playing because of the type of game or the type of players in the game, not how your cards are running? On average how often do you have winning sessions ie. you lose 1 out of 5 times you play? How much is that loss on average? How much should a good player "swing" during a session? Have you ever had a losing streak? How long did it last? Please answer whatever questions you are comfortable answering. Thanks.
