A hand I played in Omaha8, Hector, 15. Jan 2003 10:02

It has been a long time since I have played this hand, but it has been a consistent thought to me. It was a kill hand, and UTG opened with a call. everyone folds to me on the button with KsJs3d6d. I call, little blind folds and the big blind checks. First of all should I have called this hand to start with? I was playing position, and running fairly well. The big blind was a moderate player who will pay you off, and UTG was on tilt and giving alot of action. The flop came, 45Q rainbow, Qs. Big blind checks,UTG bets and I raise, big blind calls, UTG raises and I call. Turn comes a 10s. Big blind checks, UTG bets and I raise. Both players just call. This is what I would like some feed back to. Should I have played the hand at all this way? The river came As and I scooped the whole pot, but I'm not sure if my play was correct with my pot odds so low. I would appreciate any feed back.

I would have called not raised. You ran the high risk of having nothig in the end.
You had a lot of options on the river, but you won and that's all that really matters.
The first raise was a test to see power - UTG said he was stron with a re-raise on the flop. On the turn he bet and you raised because now your possiblities opened. Why did he stay? You both bet agressively on nothing.
IMHO - river players pay more often. But then again you had to see it with your hand!

I undrstand that I made an overaggressive play. Maybe that's why it's been a thought in my mind for so long. Now here is my question to you. With only one caller and the blinds left to act, would you play the hand before the flop? If so, would you call or raise and try to play the hand heads up? I don't play much omaha, and I want to expand my playing to different games.

I probably release the hand preflop. If I'm going to play it because a loose player came in UTG then I have to make some use of position right away and raise to try and lose the small blind. I don't even like this hand three way on the flop, but by having raised there is some chance I can now knock out the big blind. It's hard to play trash in Omaha unless you have a decent chance of getting it heads up by the turn. If both blinds were tight, then I might not fold preflop.
