I will be staying in Vegas for about 2-3 weeks to play poker. Can anyone (perhaps a local) recommend an economical place to stay. Thank you in advance.

Deak,
You need to let us know a little more about what you're looking for. If you're only interested in absolutely the cheapest room, your best bet is to head downtown to one of the many places that don't list on any on-line directories (or even in the Yellow Pages). You will find many vacancies for places that go for $22.99/night and under $150/week.
If you want something a little higher up you can check out a number of sites on the web. Just do an advanced google search under "Cheap Room in Vegas" and you'll come up with a bunch of listings. I also know, firsthand, that th Super8 chain has a place for the mid $30s during the week -- a little higher on the weekends.
For the more standard places, there are few cheaper that have poker than the Orleans. It's off the Strip. The Klondike doesn't have poker but it does have a quaint local casino. It may be $5/10 cheaper than the Orleans but it's not as nice. Onthe strip, some cheap places but without poker are Maxim, Fitzgeralds or Barbary Coast.. They'll run you about $45 off peak and $70 peak -- though it depends on the week. Again, the internet motel/hotel sites will list them. I also hit a great deal once at the Quality Inn/Key Largo. It was in late December and they had a special of $22 night PER ROOM. They're normally about $69 I think.

Thanks for the suggestions for places to stay. As poker mirrors life (notice the postings on hands and that some include lots of details and others not much, which can ultimately help or hinder in the offering of advice on the hand) and vice versa it would have been better to have included a little more information as was suggested by Ashley Adams. I was looking for a simple place that is near the strip so that I wouldn't have to drive. Again your suggestions are very helpful.

Cheers,

Deak

For hotel amenites AND free transportation, try the Gold Coast first ( no poker), or the Orleans (28 tables, two tourneys a day). Both offer free shuttles to the Barabray Coast (LV blvd and Flamingo). It is a little know factiod that the back bar at Barabary Coast is the apex of an isosilese triangle, with the base angles located 400 yards away at the Mirage Poker Room and the Belagio Poker Room. It is also where the hookers hung out when the MGM burned. Don't know if they still do.

There are three Econo Suite type places, (all less than two years old) at the end of the Strip, which is a $1.50 bus ride each way ($20/30 unlimited a month) down the entire Strip. One is called CanCun. The cheapest, about $200 a week, is called Malibu Bay Suites, and the other one is called something else. This method is a safe, excellent way to get "up close and Personal" with Las Vegas direlects, in case you are thinking of becoming one.

And no, you can't have any of my weed.
