I've been playing poker for about 2 years now and have gotten pretty good. I've played mostly online or home games, but the few times I've been to Atlantic City, I've played well, usually all day,and have not had a losing session there. Maybe just lucky :) Because of the hours I put in when I do go to the cardroom, I'm wondering about what kinds of comps, if any, are available in the cardrooms and who I speak to about them. I know the floorperson, but I wouldn't even know what to ask for. Any help is appreciated.

Oh, by the way, its mostly at the Taj, any specifics?

Poker room comps, in A.C. and CT casinos are provided on an hourly basis. For every hour you play at the Taj, for example, all players with a comp card are entitled to $2.00 (or something like that) per hour of play. There may be a minimum stake game for this amount, I'm not sure. You can redeem your comps at any of the restaurants (and in CT at least in the gift shops and hotels as well). They are just like money in that regard.

Ask any of the staff and they'll point you in the right direction to get your comp card.

By the way, if you're so inclined, Foxwoods is now paying the highest comps in the country -- $3/hour for $20/40 Stud and $20/40 hold em. Good through January. After that it will be $1.50/hour.

The amount you get comped depends on the limit you are playing. At the Trop in Atlantic City you get $1.00/hr when you play 4-8. I'm not sure what the Taj's comps are like because I always forget to swipe my card when I leave so I lose all my comps. I think its pretty much the same as the Trop. Basically poker players get very little because the house makes peanuts compared to what they are making on the slots and table games. Oh well...at least the drinks are free.

In general Poker comps suck compared to how the casino comps table game players and such. They do not make much money off of poker players. Specifically the Taj comps poker as follows
2-4 - 50 cents per hour
3-6,5-10 1.00 per hour
10-20 and up - 2 per hour
