Bad Players Winning, Cade, 1. Jan 2003 22:42

Over the past 6 or 7 nights I have played in 4 home games, and even though I consider myself to be the best player out of any of the players I have played with and by far have the most poker knowledge out of all of them I have lost considerably in two of the games due to losing hands with bad players that either made an extremely dumb decision but got lucky, or didn't know how to bet correctly with the hand they held. We always play no limit so it is easy to lose big in one hand. I know in the long run I will win big as has been the case so far, but to be honest I'm not use to losing, and losing my last two out of four games has been kind of demotivating. After losing hands I was sure I had won, I find myself second guessing myself when making decisions that normally i would have never second guessed, and then not winning the potential big pot due to it. Does anyone have any words of encouragement or stories they wouldn't mind sharing that are similar, because to be honest I'm sadly starting to question myself about whether to play in the up coming games I had been planning to play in. I think I'm just scared.

your fellow poker player,
CADE

Sometimes the lettuce eats the rabbits and there's not much you can do other than to sit back and watch the phenomnenom. It is even more pronounced in limit games where this anomoly can go on for quite some time, since you rarely can punish mistakes for all a player's chips in a single hand.

I'd say don't sweat it too much. It's only 2 sessions. But you can never go wrong by re-assessing your own game and making sure you are playing your hands (and opponents) in the most ideal manner. Better luck.

A sign of a good player is to play well when things go poorly. If in fact you are a better player than your opponents, this is where you show it, by getting back on the horse and going for the next ride.

Cade
Is it possible that you are playing too many hands? Are you giving too many free cards?
You should also realize that in no limit there are going to be greater swings than in limit. Keep at it you ll get them !

Hi Cade - I could have written an article just as you describe. I've been playing in a pot limit game for 10 years. I know I'm better than most players. Some are very weak. But yet I don't seem to win as much as I should. Some of the players win $4,000 on a good night. I rarely win > $1,000. I keep telling myself - I'll have a hot streak, but it's been 10 years. I sympathize with you. Better luck

I WOULD GUESS 10 YEARS MIGHT BE LONG ENOUGH TO SUGGEST THAT MAYBE, JUST MAYBE THE OTHER PLAYERS ARENT AS BAD AS YOU THINK ! WHY DONT YOU SEE IF THEY FANCY CHANGING THE GAME TO MAYBE TWISTER ?
