| My speculaion is that Hold 'em came from the work farms (prisons) which are scattered about Oklahoma and Texas. The format is ideal for such an environment--fourteen or so can be dealt into a hand, after all. I speculate further that soon it became apparent that the play of a hand of hold 'em closely resembled a prison break. The first stage is a 'flop', as one falls from the jail window. Then there is the 'turn', which is the first thing you do to avoid the scent of the dogs. Finally, if you can make it to the 'river,' you can lose the scent entirely and gain freedom. That there is my theory, and it's totally speculation on my part. :) | ||
