the right move?, Lee Vaughn, 29. Dec 2002 20:47

Below is a hand I played in a typical loose-passive online low limit HE game. I didn't have any specific info on the way the players involved played prior to this.

I am UTG+1 and I am first in limping w/ KQs. Three other players plus both blinds call and the flop comes 8s 3d Qc. It's checked to me and I bet. Two late position players and the BB call and the turn is Jh. Checked to me and I bet, player to my left raises and the BB calls. I was considering calling or possibly reraising if it was folded to me, but once the BB called I figured one if not both players had me beat with two pair or possibly trips. I folded with almost six big bets in the pot. River came up 5h and player to my left shows QTo to win with a pair of queens. (BB had J9d) Thoughts on this fold?

In these situtations I usually resort to a check-call mode. Bad players think they have the best of it with Q-10 and will try and get an extra big bet in on the turn. You should have called it down especially because you know nothing about this player.

Unless I got a good read on the raiser, I'm folding here too. I'm very cautious of Turn raises in the lower limit games & this has prooved correct in the large majority of cases.

Harry
