| Tell me how it is an easier life playing poker than pursuing a higher imcome career! 1 You will be required to study poker as much as you would any other trade. 2 Everyday you risk your wins from the previous session. 3 You socialize with the most pschologically unenlightened people and you cannot educate them because it is a finacial necessity to keep them that way. 4 If your single, dating to find a life mate is lady luck. If your coupled you have to have a partner who cannot interfer with your work. if your gonna play to five in the morning she has to understand.. | ||

| 5 no other job requires you to have the focus of a surgeon and the emotional control of a buddist monk 6 what job is there that its most important function is to not perform. Meaning Pokers deadliest weapon is to fold. You will have days when you play 8 hours and have to fold for 7 of those hours. 7 Most so called poker professionals have diversified incomes they do not make their money solely from the poker tables they have been smart to invest, start businesses such as publishing, real estate, online poker rooms etc. | ||

| A hard way to make an easy living? Actually, I think it's one of many professions that is more appealing as an idea than as a reality. A few others come to mind. Jazz musician. Seems great, doesn't it?Playing music that you love and hanging out with cool people while traveling. And getting paid to do it! But, I suspect, it's an awful gig for most who have to scramble like crazy to find decent paying work, have to be away from their families most nights and weekends, who don't get health insurance or a pension or sick days or paid vacation. And you have to inhale all of that cigarette smoke. And, even the music I imagine gets boring after a while. You're constantly wondering what else there is in life and not daring to take the risk of blowing off your paying work for more interesting, edgier stuff. Or what about being a professional writer? Man, wouldn't that be cool. Set your own hours, write about the interesting things in life, go on fascinating research trips, meet great people, be exhalted by critics -- what could be better? On the other hand you don't have a steady pay check, you have long dry spells of no work, you have to scramble around for other ways to make money when the publishing work slows down, you don't get health insurance, paid vacation, holidays, sick days or a pension, you have to cowtow to idiot publishers who don't care at all for your art, you have to write about things you couldn't care less about just to pay bills, etc., etc. Not to crow, but I think I've got the best job there can be. I wouldn't trade it for being a professional poker player even if I had the skills to do so. Ashley Adams on 29. | My great job is this. I am a union organizer for teachers. I organize them to enhance their power as advocates for education and in their own lives. I train them in collective bargaining, mediation, advocacy, lobbying, organizing, outreach and leadership. I advocate for them as well. I represent them when they have been treated unfairly. I negotiate contracts. I build coalitions around educational policy. I love it. I get to reach inside people's lives in a fascinating and important arena, while acting as a gladiator as well as peacemaker from time to time. What could be better? Ashley Adams on 1.
