Home and local games, Brent, 17. Dec 2002 11:33

Ok, I think I went about this wrong with my last post. I would like to find some local games in my area and I would appreciate all suggestions on the best way to do so. I am a novice who is working on improving my game. I have no real contacts in the poker world. Here is what I have been doing - I posted on a couple forums such as this and I have networked friends to see if they know anyone holding games. I have met a few people and organize some games myself but not the regular game I was hoping for. All suggestions welcome, thanks.

Where do you live? (i.e. what area are you looking for games in?)

I'm looking for games in the Akron Ohio area. My main goal is to play against new competition. While I know I am very much the novice, I consistantly win against my current competition.

since i can't sleep, i'll give it a shot. For Public cardrooms, there was a card player travel guide published several years ago that included all 6 table or more legal room in the U.S. Don't know if it has been updated . Try Cardplayer.com or order a free catalog from Gambler's Bookstore (not General Store). They can tell you with a phone call if the book is still in print, updated, etc. I think they have an 800 number.

For home or private games, i suggest you go the the nearest Fire Station. Ask about becoming a firefighter, do they work 24 hr shifts, are they allowed recreation time while on duty, ETC. The subject of poker will probably come up, and some of the guys probably have home games. If you act right, u might be invited. This is an excellent career for a poker player, by the way. Firefighters usually work two 24 hr shifts a week.

Next stop, police station. If you get in there, at least the game won't be busted.

Postal workers are also excellent prospects. I 've played with several postmen through the years, and they were excellent action and a source for other home games.
