Dynasty on 2+2 small stakes stated that we shouldnt play AT, KJ, KT, K9, QJ, QT, Q9 or JT (all unsuited) from early or middle positions. Correct me Dynasty if I have misquoted you, but I cant get on 2+2 anymore to verify what you stated. Also, you are a middle limit player, if I recall, so do you also think your advice applies to the lower limit games as well?

I dont play the above hands very much anymore because of your post, and I feel that the advice is good. However, I see a lot of those starting hands would have been a winner by showdown. KJ and KT both make twice as many straights as AT, but they are dominated if an ace flops or shows on turn or river. The ten kicker is dominated by any ace and an overcard of another player. The kings can, of course, be dominated by any KQ. When I play the AT or KJ or QJ, I do so with the foreknowledge that I will muck them very quickly if the flop doesn't give me a good draw. If I pair up, I plan to play very carefully if an overcard is on the board. Also, I play them only if I can see the flop cheaply.

I would appreciate any thoughts from anyone that would care to comment. I know there are a lot of ifs, ands, buts, and it depends; but I am hoping someone might address some of them also if I havent generalized too much. Thanks very much in advance.

I would consider playing KJ, QJ or JT from middle position, especially if you are first in. I don't think you want too many people in the pot though since your not suited, and like you said you will have to play carefully to make sure your not introuble after the flop. If you are already aware of these hands very easily coming in second best you should be on the right track. I think these hands are best in passive games because you certainly don't want to come in with these hands and then have a raise behind you. Then your stuck paying the extra bet on a mediocre hand or tossing it away and loosing the initial bet. In tight games you might be able to get away with a raise with these hands from middle position if you are first in and you think it will get folded around. That's a bit iffy though...
