The Woman who's breaking me: New Saga, Kyle Stark, 10. Dec 2002 09:05

Any who hasn't read Daniel Gnegreanu's trilogy "the woman who broke me" should

My woman's breaking the hell out of me. .or is she?

Not that she inhibits the time and amount i can play; she encourages it and likes to watch! (i swear i'm not making this up)
I am by far a better B & M player than online (hell who isn't) I found that I can beat OLP short handed games real easy. . .or so i thought

I'm a consistent 3-6 BM winner and a consistent 1/2 OLP loser, so i was going to take my last 50 olp $ and just go to the short handed table, well 3 days later i'm up 12bb an hour for just over 600. I was hoping and waiting to see if it was just a mad rush. . . i know you guys are thinking how can i NOT think it wasn't a rush .. .well because i was getting such solid reads on my opp. they might as well of been playing thier cards face up. (this is going to be another post)
ANYWAYS my girlfriend just learned the game last week, she's the closest to a natural that i've seen. Sounds great right? WRONG!

Her thing is she can read the flops for the nuts perfectly already. So in turn when she watches my short handed games she automatically assume the bettor has the nuts no matter how unlikely, then when i make a move she says something negative and tries to tell me what the nuts are and that she knows the other person has it. Well so far my moves have been about 80-90% accurate when bluffing or calling out a bluffer, but naturally she remembers the 1 time in 2 hours i made a bad move then asks WHY DID YOU DO THAT? CAN YOU NOT READ THE BOARD LIKE ME? she even told me "this isn't a reading people contest". . .i really had nothing to say on that one. Then it gets in my head, and i miss moves i know i should make, missed bets, wrong folds etc.

To make a long story short, heh, I've been taking huge swings since she's been watching/commentating. When she starts in on my plays i go down fast and hard, but then i tell her to shut the f'up, she shuts up and i'm back up in no time. . . is this coincedence? or am I just noticing her beratings when i'm losing. .or was it a rush, i'm not that good and i'm blaming her for it?

Don't let her watch for a while. Then when you've figured out whether your winning was a rush or not, let her watch again, and tell her to shut up. That might sound a bit harsh, but anything that takes away from YOUR concentration is bad for YOUR game.

As soon as something else besides poker enters your mind during a game, your probably going to bust.

It actually sounds like she tilted you.

Maybe you're just not very bright. You should seriously consider that.
