Was I too negative?, Hatchet Harry, 1. Dec 2002 08:46

NL HE tourney - early on with about 120 remaining participants. I have about 1400 in chips. Blinds are at 30/60

I'm in the cuttoff with QQ. Early position (3000 in chips) raises to 60 and gets two callers, I re-raise to 300. The initial raiser calls and 1 of the mid position players call.

Flop comes Ad Kd 6s, both players check to me and I check. Turn brings Ac. Initial raiser chcks and mid position raises all in for about 1200. We both fold.

Becuase I had just switched tables i had no information on the players but assumed that one of them must be holding an A to call the raise. Should I have bet the flop - if so should it be a test bet or should i have remained committed in the face of the checks?

This was a tough play for me and I would appreciate any help for the future.

Cheers
HH

Harry,

I don't play NL but i think that was the worst possible flop you could get. Your pre-flop re-raise was great, but with two callers and no info or tells on their play, I think this is a folding situation. I would credit at least one of the opponents to have an A or K.

This is not the time to risk the entire tournament. You're not yet in the money and will have lots of other opportunities.
