| Thought i'd share the story of my first trip to a live game since becoming conciously incompentant about the game. I'd played in a couple of live games before, but I did'nt really have a clue what I was doing. This trip was a bit different as I went there with an air of anticipation that i'd be able to hold my own with my newly found set of skills. I was soon to find out how wrong i'd been -) The game was a 10 quid rebuy Pot Limit hold'em tourney at the Grosvernor in Salford, Manchester UK. I grabbed my 500 starting chips and settled down into the 9 seat and the battle commenced. I folded every hand for the first couple of rounds, and then my heart starts to pound as I squeeze out an A behind the one i'd already seen. Immediate thoughts as I wiped the sweat from my brow was not to panic..... Calmly I glance around to see if anybody's already clocked what must have been elation in my eye's and it seems i got away with it. I get a couple of limpers and then call myself, it seems even my call puts the fear of god into every one as they all charge for the muck, however the button raises all in, and is called by 1 of the early limpers. So i stick my chips in and the Bullets hold up. As i'm raking in the chips that have been pushed to me, my hands are shakin to the point that i just give up trying to stack em, and just try and hide my blushes. A nice bloke opposite me suggests that I may have played online a few times before, and asks if my nickname was 'Shaky' this sends the table in histerical laughter and gets rid of any street cred that i mighta had left. Still, I had a few chips and was able to steal a couple of pots. I had about 2000 in chips and had not been involved in the action for about 30 or so hands, when J-9 suited hits me in the BB. I've got 1 limper from middle position so i decide it's a good oppotunity to make some moves (in retrospect i knew virtually nothing on all of my opponents as my full concentration had been on trying to read my own tells). I raise it up to 500 and am called by the limper. Flop Comes Q, J, x offsuit. I bet the pot, the limper looks over at me and after what seemed an age re-raises me all in. I call and his AQ holds up. He mentioned aftewards that he'd have put me on A's or K's if for the fact that my hands had been shaking when placing my bet, but being i was rock solid he'd decided to have a go at it. I made about 4 more re-buy's but did'nt get any cards dropping and was on my way home about half hour after the rebuy's ended. I'd had a wail of a time but it did teach me that I hav'nt even scraped the surface with regards to the skills needed for this game. To all of you shoving a couple of thousand into the pot every day, you have my upmost respect... Still, I'm going to pop along tommorow and see if I can re-deem myself! Respect! HH | ||
