| I'm hoping the attached is a straightforward play regardless of result, but I'm trying to fine tune my game so if anybody has any comments of interest i'd be glad to hear them! $5/$10 Texas Hold'em Seat 8 is the button Seat 1: Loose Aggresive Player Seat 4: Tight Passive Seat 5: HatchetHarry (Off 'is rocker!) Seat 10: Loose Passive Dealt to HatchetHarry [ Qh ] Dealt to HatchetHarry [ Qc ] Seat 1: Call ($5) Seat 4: Call ($5) HatchetHarry: Raise ($10) Seat 10: Call ($5) Seat 1: Call ($5) Seat 4: Call ($5) FLOP [ Tc 8s Ts ] Seat 10: Bet ($5) Seat 1: Fold Seat 4: Fold HatchetHarry: Raise ($10) Seat 10 : Call ($5) TURN: [ Tc 8s Ts ] [ Th ] Seat 10 : Check HatchetHarry: Bet ($10) Seat 10 : Call ($10) RIVER: [ Tc 8s Ts Th ] [ Qd ] Seat 10 : Check HatchetHarry: Bet ($10) Seat 10 : Call ($10) My main question is should I have raised on the flop even though i had been bet into by the BB with a pair on the board? (My reasoning for the raise was to define my hand and to get value on any draw!) Thanks HH | ||

| Your flop raise was fine against a loose opponent (assuming those kinds of flops don't scare him off). It helped to define the hand as you wanted, but if he had a 10, you set him up for a check-raise on the turn, no matter what fell. What did he have? A-8 or K-8? Mark | ||

| You played it fine. Before taking the lead with confidence, though, you need to have a feel for what your opponent does when the have a T vs. what they do with an 8. What would you have done if the opponent check-raised the turn? | ||

| The player in question had'nt made any moves that i'd seen in the game, so I had him down for either 2 pair, flush draw and betting for value or he'd hit trips. If he'd re-raised me on the flop i probably woulda paid him off there and then. I would've had more problems getting off the hand if he'd called the flop raise and check raised the turn as I would've believed he would have had to re-raise on the flop if he'd hit trips. With this in mind i probably woulda called it down. As it happens i probably given this player too much respect as he was silly enough to show me his 5-8 off. I know I had been playing solid enough for my bets to stand up but it seemed he'd ignored this. I am not happy with my opponent classification methods, but i am yet to find any decent litreture which goes into any depth on opponent classification. Because i play most of my poker online, I tend to classify my opponents in the first 30 hands or so, giving them a tag of loose / tight & passive or aggresive. If I have no information then I automatically give the player respect. I tend to discipline myself to stick by these straw poll classifications, but I think I'm probably loosing alot of equity because of it. Still rome was'nt built in a day and this time i won the battle. Thanks for the comments. HH | ||

| Yes..I would raise in that spot unless I knew the player would be VERY unlikely to bet without a ten! Roy Cooke | ||
