| Based on various articles and forum messages I have read, Draw poker seems to have a slightly higher degree of chance than other forms of poker, but the stronger presence of tells negates, to an extent, the chance element involved. I have also heard you called the best Draw poker man on the planet, so. . . Do you think that playing draw poker online is an exercise in futility? The degree of chance is larger because you can't see your opponents cards and you can't really get tells online. So does draw poker online boil down to "I think he might have. . . " and "I don't think he would call a raise with. . . "? Just wondering logistically how to go about playing this online. Additionally, as I don't know a lot about draw poker (or lowball), could someone post some general starting requirements for both Hi and Lo? I don't know any books that cover this except Supersystem (but I am waiting on the paperback) Thanks in advance. | ||

| Draw poker actually has a lower luck factor then other forms of poker since the best hand holds up more often. Draw lowball is the complete oposite of this and has a much higher luck factor. I do think of all games played online draw loses the most skill. Since tells are a big factor in this game and there are only 2 betting rounds. | ||

Hi, Mick -- I agree with you that the absence of major online tells takes a lot of skill out of draw poker -- a game where tells are especially apparent. I disagree, though, that "Draw poker seems to have a slightly higher degree of chance than other forms of poker." The weaker starting hand will fail to catch up much more often in draw than in many other forms of poker -- especially seven-card stud. However, if what you mean by chance is that you have less information about what your opponent holds, since there are no cards exposed, that's a point on your side of the argument. But, the number of cards drawn is often a good indication of what a player may hold. I think draw poker is an excellent game to spread online, because most casual players know the rules. Draw poker is a good attraction when the marketing for online poker moves beyond appealing to mostly experienced players, which it soon will, I think. I'll leave the simple guidelines for others to post. Most of mine were done for a game that used a 53-card deck that included the joker (standard in most public cardrooms of California when the game was widely spread). Straight Flushes, Mike Caro | ||

| If the software gurus can stick a "bug" in the deck, 53 card Lowball and Draw would be more attractive to the casual player. It would also be a marketing coup over the other major sites. Don't let them tell you it would be too hard to rewrite, the effort is worth it! | ||
