I have only started to play 7 card stud and Holdem in the last 12 months and still have a LOT to learn. I love the challenge and the social aspect. Recently, I started to read CardPlayer magazine and have gained a lot of great tips and knowledge. My question is - in quite a few articles describing different scenarios, 'The Cut Off' is mentioned, what is The Cut Off?

In games where there is a rotating button and blinds, the cutoff is the player in the seat just in front of the button for that hand.

The cut off seat is the seat one off the dealer button. Or alternate way of looking at it the player in second last position after the flop.

By "in front" I was saying acts first. I suppose it would be clearer to have said the player who acts just before the button does.

Some players raise in this position to "cut off" the button. Hence the name.
