Pot limit hold'em hand (KQs on the button), CapnD, 19. Nov 2002 07:25

| 7 handed, 2/4 blinds pot limit game. I'm running extermely well, and have turned 500 into around 1500. UTG limps for 4, folded to me. I raise to 12 with KsQs. The UTG player is very weak, and I want to isolate him. UTG calls. 2 players, 30 bucks. UTG is short stacked at around 165 bucks. Flop comes TT3 with 2 diamonds. UTG could have anything here, and I'm not exaggerating. He pulled down a big pot earlier in the night with 95o UTG. Unfortunately, I had pocket rockets and he flopped two 5s. UTG checks to me, I bet $20. He calls. Turn brings a non-diamond 9. UTG checks to me. What's my play? UTG has about 150 left. | ||

| The main reason I raised is that the BB has a big stack and is probably the best player in the game, and I didnt want him in the hand playing games with me when I could isolate a weak, short stacked player. | ||

| Have you seen UTG fold on the turn, after calling a big-ish bet, heads up on the flop, before? If not then I would be inclined to look at the river for free. If UTG is very loose it is difficult to judge what he might have. However, that also means you are likely to get plenty more opportunities to win his money. Why not wait until you are stronger? I am inexperienced in this type of situation though. It will be interesting to see what others think. Snorbolus on 19. Nov 2002 07:25 CapnD wrote: > 7 handed, 2/4 blinds pot limit game. Bet for sure ( about 50 ) and keep on betting unless he raises, you have to put him on the draw would he have checked trip 10s twice ? Would he have checked any hand ( Big pocket pair ) twice i would bet and only let the possibiltiy of a Diamond put me off ! Of course i could be wrong ! | ||

He loves to check-raise the turn with big hands. Earlier in the night I had AA and the flop came T55. I bet the flop, he called. Turn brought a blank and I checked it through behind him. River blanked off, and I then called a pot size bet on the end to see his 95o. But this time I felt like he was on a draw. Not to mention I had no hand to showdown. I made a pot size bet of 70. He thought for what seemed like forever and finally said "well, I guess I will go home early tonight", and re-raised me all in for a raise of around 50 bucks. The pot is now $260, and I have to call another $50. I figure between the chances I'm ahead and the chances of improving by either hitting a J, Q, or K that I should call. He had AdQd and hit his flush on the river. Didn't matter though, because he was ahead the whole time. I really thought he would lay down a draw on the turn. I'm still not sure I played this hand wrong, but its been bothering me for 2 or 3 days. Maybe I should have took my free card and tried to improve on the river and then bluff at it if the diamond didn't hit.

| I didn't get to your post before you gave the results. Maybe you could allow 24 hrs. next time. If he could have anything, but still called your flop bet getting 2.5:1, I figure you're behind. Take the free card, and if he bluffs at a blank on the river then there's always the next hand. If he checks, I would bet about $30. I doubt he would be check-calling with anything that he would want to call this last bet with, and if he's thinking of checkraise bluffing that is the perfect amount to have bet. This is because he would now have to come over the top all-in. | ||
