I was wondering how to calculate the size bankroll I would need to play at certain limits. Specifically, how big it should be before I skim off the top and spend it and also how big it needs to get before I can move on up the ladder.

Thanks for any input,

Hi Dave,

This is an oft discussed (argued) question. I think the general consensus is 200 to 300 big bets. For instance, if you're playing 10-20 and want the least "risk of ruination" you should have a bankroll of $4,000 to $6,000.

Hi, timmer --

Thanks for recommending the column. I had forgotten about it. Remember, though: As stated, that's only one possible solution to bankroll building. It is based on a specified premise that might not be suitable to everyone.

I also want to thank you, and many other I haven't gotten around to yet, for your participation on UPF. You are most welcome here, and your contributions are greatly prized.

As for the suitability of the bankroll out line drafted in your piece I think I and others could do much worse and would if we chose to disregard them.

I think most generally accepted method is 300 big bets.
