| Hello fellow poker players, I play holdem in a 5-10 game in the detroit area. The rake is $5.00 with a $1.00 bad beat. My game is tight, but it's a grind. The $10.-20. has the same rake. Would I be better off in the $10.-$20. Since the rake % would be much less. Help ! bongos in Detroit | ||

| Hello John Rake is a factor in the equation, but is not all of the equation by any means. Is the 10-20 much tougher? Do you have the best of the players at the same level that you do in the 5-10. Rake is a factor, as is the volume you can bet and the edge you bet it at! If you bet $100 with a 10% edge and have to give 5% to the house it is a better bet than betting $200 at a 2% edge and giving 2-1/2% to the house! Roy Cooke n 15. | do you feel that your competent at that level is the only question you need answered..its that simple..if your uncertain then get in there and find out for a few sessions... I know many players that delve into the math rake etc but in reality you need a solid foundation first above all else to be consistent and competitve.. jim | ||

| $6 out of nearly every pot is steep. But only you know whether the higher game is filled with players who are bad enough to beat. Play higher if the skill level of the opposition is as bad at the lower stakes game and if your bankroll can absorb the swings. But be careful. You might lose to better players what you gain in a lower rake. Ashley Adams | ||

| Another thing to look at is at what levels (pot sizes) is the rake taken and the increment in which it is taken. As well as the average sized pot that is a result of the typical type plays and players. that is why a thing such as game selection plays such a vital part in the overall universe of your poker decision making. timmer | ||

| The rake in both games is much too stiff. Find a better game, even if you have to relocate. | ||
