| As before, typical game. Not overly aggressive but not totally passive either. 1) I have JJ under the gun and call. Two players call behind me as does the SB. BB check. Flop comes 7c3d2h. I bet. Two players behind me call. Both Blinds fold. Turn is 10c. I bet, both players call. River 2c. I bet, both players call. Fist player behind me has J7o. Other player has Jc9c and wins the pot. I didn't want to risk a free card with that board. I wasn't familiar with either player behind me. The player with the 7 might have bet. Jc9c I don't think would have. The BB might have tried a bluff bet on the turn had I not bet the flop. I could have then raised and made it a lot harder for the flush to call. A raise pre-flop might have won me the blinds right away; but, I don't like to do that with JJ up front. Middle to late, yes. UTG, not usually. 2) One limper to me. I call with KsJs in middle position. Two callers behind me (these guys have been calling a lot without raises so I was expecting them in the pot). SB folds, BB checks. 5 players $50. Flop comes As 6d Qs giving me the nut straight, the nut flush and a possible royal (12 outs). I bet since I am about 5:4 to connect. The two players behind me call. the turn is 7h. I decide to bet again as I am about 3 to 1 to connect. Both players call. River is 10c giving me the nut straight. I bet out. Both players call. The second player had an A. Not sure what the other one had. Looking back, I think I should have just check-called on the turn and then check-raised on the river as I think the player with the A would have bet both times. How should I have proceeded? | ||

| Tough beat in the first hand, it happens. Hard to find any problem with your play. I'm not quibbling with call or raise preflop, that should depend on a feel for the table's overall tightness, and to a lesser degree your current image. In the second hand, I just don't like calling before the flop with big suited cards from middle position when there is only one limper in front. I prefer to attempt isolation, even if there are calling stations in the late positions. I agree with your post mortem, check-call the turn and checkraise the river. | ||

| In hand #1 I would have raised with JJ UTG, if all I win is the blinds, so be it. If I get called, then I bet the flop. If I'm raised on the flop I three-bet. I think JJ is one of the most "misplayed" hands in holdem, and frankly my way may be a "bad play" too. I'd rather be aggressive UTG with a paint pair then have someone back into a flush or straight with a hand they may have easily laid down preflop. I really can't imagine either of the two hands you described calling preflop and AGAIN on the flop. Then again, if it were played face-up...; hehe Rick | ||
