A-A Under the gun, Adam88, 11. Nov 2002 09:15

Some thought here please.
Last 2 no limit tournaments I've been in I was snapped with the AA under the gun.
First was midway through the tour. Blinds of 300-600, I have 4400, just below avg. stack for the time. I called with the black A-A and was called by the button and BB checked. Flop cam Ah-9h-3h. BB checked I bet out 1200 Button calls, BB folds. Turn is a blank. I move all in, button calls. 7h on the river , and I lose to Kh-Jd. Did i play this correctly or should I have moved harder before the flop?

Second time came under similar situations. Under the gun again(first to act). Ah-Ac. I thought maybe this time I should limit the field some. So i raised 2X the BB, was called by seat nine(next to the button) BB called. Flop of 2h-3c-4s. Liking the flop, thinking in no limit there was not likely and A-5 out there or 5-6 I move all in with top pair and the gut shot. Was called but the nine seat BB folded. Turn was Jh, And was caught by nine seat who had J-J.
Again am I playing this hand to softly? Or doing the right thing to call and hope to run up a big pot to help my poor chip situation?

Thanks.

I go all-in on the flop. If someone does have the flush, you still have a decent shot of picking up the full house and you might get a weaker flush to fold. At least you make the flush draws pay.

Your pre-flop bet was fine, you want a caller or two but no more and that is what you got. Your "good flop" invited anyone with an overpair to call you. With this flop, I think you want the overpairs to call you as there are only 4 cards that hurt you (the cards that give your opponents trips). I would have bet on the flop but not all-in. In this case, I don't think it matters as he would have called any bet, and when you bet the turn, he would have raised you all-in anyway.

First hand I push all-in right away on the flop. Second hand you didn't give any indication how far away from the money you were or stack sizes. If I had a medium stack, I might have been looking to checkraise all-in if I thought someone called preflop with a medium pocket pair or an ace and a big card. Going all-in immediately is okay with a smaller stack.
