Just moved to Columbia, MO from STL and I am trying to line out my poker options. Ideally I would like to find some local low-limit HE games, but barring that I know I will have to drive to STL or KC. (it is about the same distance either way.)

I know Ameristar and the President in STL have poker rooms, but do they do any daily or weekly tournaments? I know the President used to have a Monday night tourney, but the few times I went down for it they did have enough players to run it.

I don't know anything about the KC boats other than the fact that some have poker rooms. Any suggestions and tourney info would be appreciated.

Lastly, if anybody from the Columbia area reads this and knows about local games I would be glad to hear about them. Thanks for the help!

Lee

Only the Ameristar in Kansas City has poker. For low limit action, 3-6 hold'em is spread daily. Sometimes this has a full kill. Occasionally there is a 4-8 hold'em, but it breaks quickly. Spread limit stud at 1-5 no ante also plays daily. There is 5-10 Omaha-8 with a full kill that starts about 11:00 AM daily, except for weekends when it is bumped up to 10-20 with a half kill. While the boat is 24/7, the poker room is only open from 10:00 AM until 4:00 AM weekdays. All night on the weekends. The mainstay game there is 15-30 hold'em. Two nights a week there is 20-40 half hold'em half Omaha. With enough interest this goes pot limit once a week. Occasionally spread is 1-5-10 or 2-20 Stud-8. All games are pot raked. 10-20 and above it's 5% max $4. Low limit flop games are raked 10% max $4 plus $1 jackpot. Stud is raked 10% max $5 plus $1 jackpot. High hand of the day, and bad beat jackpots are maintained for the three major low limit games: Stud, Omaha, and Hold'em. Maximum allowable buy-in for any two hour period is $500. Therefore it is important to have black checks in your pocket from a previous session when playing 15-30 or above, since you are not permitted to buy a second rack of red if you run badly early. There is a weekly fixed limit hold'em tournament held Tuesdays that starts at 7:00 PM. Registration is limited to 60 players, and it always sells out. You will need to usually be there by noon with $40 to get a seat. There are no rebuys, but 100% of the buy-ins are returned to the players. Pays six places with 40% to the winner. Limits go up every 20 minutes starting with 10-20 and T500.

that 's about as accurate as it gets about Ameristar.
They comp you $0.75 per hour for playing if you get your card swiped, but adult beverages are not comped.

The 1-5 Stud tables are generally super lame and the 1-5-10 hi-lo game is even lamer. There are micro pots and you just can't win much even with great strategy.

Weekend play is generally looser and more fun. On the weekdays you only play the regulars and the rocks, especially in stud.

The low limit Hold 'em games are generally good. Omaha tends to be pretty tough with mostly regulars in the game.

Don't even attempt the 2-20 hi-lo game. Those cats start out betting 20 on 3rd street and it seems like the only bet ever placed in that game is 20 all the time.

The cardroom managers and dealers are all very nice. Unfortunately the bad beat jackpots and hi hand of the day jackpots are all most people seem to play for.

Don't even think about playing in the Dentists' game on Mondays. That's a tough, tough game to crack. Those dudes I play with are SMART.

There are sixteen non-smoking tables, smoking is permitted just outside the poker room area. Flop games are comped .75 per hour. Stud is comped .50 per hour. These are fair value as the restaurants are not more expensive than you would expect to pay in town. Of course you can expect the best Kansas City steaks. If you like a good beer after playing to wind down, the casino has a German microbrewery on site. There is an 18 screen movie theatre complex, and live entertainment every Friday night.

The poker room in St. Louis at the President (downtown) is dying a slow death. The new Ameristar is so nice that most of the players have moved there. Limits start at 3/6 and go up to 20/40 and even a pot limit omaha game (I think on monday's).

The bad beat jackpot is up to $55,000 right now so the room has been unbelievably packed. They have also made a sincere attempt at creating a professionally run room. They still have room to go, but they are getting better all the time.

I wondered if that would happen....I haven't played at the President for a while but was at Ameristar after it was redone and it was packed... Too bad about the President I always received better treatment there from the dealers and management. Not to mention the free mini buffet.
