Hold'em hand (AcTc in the SB), CapnD, 6. Nov 2002 14:58 | ||

| I'm in a extremely fired up 20/40 game. It usually costs 80 bucks to see a flop. My table image is bad, as I am stuck like a pig and haven't won a hand in over 4 hours. UTG straddles for 40, UTG+1 throws out a blind raise to 60. Two people call the 60, and I make it 80 to go from the SB with AcTc. Everybody calls and we take the flop 6 handed with 24 Small Bets in the pot. Flop comes 984 rainbow with 1 club. I bet 20, two fold, UTG+1 makes it 40. Everybody folds, and I call. Turn brings a King and I check-raise UTG+1. He calls. River is a blank and I fire again. I'll give the results and my thoughts in a later post. Thanks for any input. Capn D | ||

| Hello It is usually hard to run over a pot this size as players tend to draw to all hands and pay off the river based on the size of the pot. I would not play the hand so aggressively pre-flop being out of position. I would not lead into a connected flop from UTG. I would checkraise bluff the UTG+1 if he was the sort of player that is capable of making a laydown if he can't beat a King! If he wasn't of that texture I would gice up the pot! Roy Cooke on 6. | Roy- My thoughts were very similar to yours except for the bet on the flop. The straddler and re-straddler are obviously action players. What's wrong with leading into these two random hands and hoping one of them will raise to clear out the field? I think I'd actually prefer that one of them flopped a pair (that didn't include an ace or ten kicker) so that they could raise and improve my chances slightly if an ace or ten comes. This pot seems big enough to take some chances. IMO- | ||

| All the players that called are action players, and I was pretty certain my hand was best pre-flop. I still like the 4-bet pre-flop. I think I was way to aggressive after that. There was no way my 4th street opponent was going to lay down any pair, especially with the table image I had. I think the check-raise on the turn was made more out of frustration than anything else. My lone opponent called and I said "ace high" and he shows A8 and I muck. on 6. | CapnD, Part of the question is whether the table typically plays loose preflop and then tightens post flop as it appears to have done here? You indicate that on the flop two players folded to a single bet after calling 3 bets and 2 bets cold (BB and straddler), then 2 more folded to a raise after cold calling 3 bets cold preflop, w/out raising. This had to be a strange comination of hands. I agree with Roy, that the 4 bet preflop may have been excessive, especially if your table image was getting little respect. Seems to me that this would have been a good hand to merely call and see what was going to flop because you had the worst position. If you were the button and might, maybe, possibly be able to get a check on the flop for a free card, then it might be different. I think the 4 bet was more tilt and frustration than you are admitting given that you have the worst position and a hand that to me is a bit of a tweener in that it has some high card value (but a lot of players will call with a-j off for 3 bets) and obvious drawing potential. | ||
