Hi there everybody...

I would consider myself a somewhat advanced poker player when playing middle limit (10/20) ring games, but the problem in my game lies when the game ends up shorthanded. I have limited success when the game drops to 5 players or less. I dont know how "loose" to set my starting requirements or how aggressive to be when hitting middle or low pair on the flop.

Can anybody offer some advice and even better the names of some books geared toward shorthanded play?

Thanks,
BreadnButter

this is a problem i know all too well. Actually i can't find any books per say, but more and more online articles and posts by respectable players are popping up all over the inet due to the new found popularity of short handed games. The best, simplest advice that i took with me, i can't remember who wrote this, but they said you wanna see about 40% of the flops, (variables depending) it helped me out in the later stages of tournaments and the especially my short handed home games.

Hold'em Poker for Advanced Players - 21st. Century edition has about 70 new pages added. Most of the new material covers shorthanded and very loose game conditions. It's worth the $30 even if you already have the previous edition. One of the main concepts S & M discuss is to ignore the top card on the flop when you get it heads-up in a shorthanded game, and continue if you have overcards to the middle rank that would otherwise play. Suppose you raise with JT on the button and get action from a very aggressive player in the big blind. Flop comes K 8 5. Rationalle for continuing when bet into on the flop is explained.
