Avg Flops Seen %, Comundongo, 2. Nov 2002 19:27 | ||

| I'm in the middle of a desperate losing streak. I've played pretty good poker throughout. So I'm not terribly discouraged about my play - just one of those downturns. The only thing that happens to me when I get here is I just start wondering. After laboring through 2 hours without a single playable hand and watching A7o or Q8o (and much, much worse) win pot after pot, I just can't help thinking I play too tight. I study a lot. The book that has most spoken directly to my style of play is Ciaffone's and Brier's Middle Limit book - the most practical book ever written in my view. My preflop requirements are very similar; although, I must admit I might be a little tighter on occassion - which for many of you may be tough to imagine. So realizing that styles differ dramatically, help me with a point of reference. What would you think is an average range of %'s of flops seen for a winning Middle limit player? Loose vs. Average vs Tight I'll follow-up with my actual % Flops seen so that I can be raked over the coals after the initial responses. thanks,ben | ||

| I don't think % flops seen is a useful statistic unless you have a LOT of data. And even then, the right number "depends" on game conditions--number of players, number of raised pots, type of players, and so forth. And this also speaks to the hands you play....hands you'd limp in UTG in loose passive games might always be mucked in tough games. | ||

| Charles brings up a strong point it depends on the table your at...I dont care how much knowledge anyone has if your not thinking and aware of the goings on around you ..then your handicapped right off the bat.. therefore adjust your % play accordingly to the game sitaution your in. jim | ||

| I think Charles was right on with his thinking. It is not the percentage of flops you see tha tis all important. Other factors are just as important. Playing AxOffsuit and Q8 off is NOT a positive expectaion play unless your opponents are bordering on braindead. If you are inexperianced in poker...keep playing solid strategies of solid cards. You can expand your game as you gain experiance! Roy Cooke on 2. Nov 2002 19:27 Comundongo wrote: > I'm in the middle of a desperate losing streak. I've played pretty good poker > throughout. | Ben It is clear that you should be seeing less than 10 % of the total flops Unless of course the game is short handed and another variable is whether it is rake or non rake. A BIG factor is what kind of opponents are you playing? Loose , Aggressive ? Tight and passive? Sounds like like you are certainly against alot of looseys! But as I ve heard many times dont loosen up on their account! Tight is still right!! Joe | ||
