| I play two limit holdem tournaments every week. I do pretty well and have shown a big profit from these tournaments. The problem I have is that the structure of the tournament, I believe, takes away from a players skill. Everyone starts with $400 in chips and the blinds start at 10-20. The limits double every 15 MINUTES! I have gone four rounds without getting a playable tournament hand. Should I change my basic "gap" strategy to something more agressive considering the structure of the tournaments? | ||

But, second, you might not like what I have to say. I know many players agree with you that tournaments should stretch out longer, allowing for more skill, but I just wrote my column for Online Poker News on this topic, and here's what I concluded: 1. You can actually take advantage of skill more by playing in many shorter tournaments than one long one; 2. Online tournament events, when compared to real-world events with the same buy-in and betting structures throughout, should be fashioned to last only about two-thirds as long. That's because you get many more hands per hour online. Anyway, despite our disagreement on this one, I'd bet your viewpoint is in the majority. And I wish you continued success. | Mike is right. As long as you are always playing, you will want the tournaments to be as quick as possible. Vincent is also right, if you only ever play in two tournaments per week, then you want them as long as possible. I can not comment on his ‘gap’ strategy as I don’t know what it is. I am always amuses me when people insist that tournaments should be structured to benefit the stronger players. Still as all Poker players know they are better than average I guess it makes sense. | ||
