| Hello, First, good to see this forum, it looks like there are some great pokerminds and knowledge gathered here. Keep up the good work. I hope I could get some thoughts on thin value betting in shorthanded (mainly focusing on 5-handed) poker, and then especially online, because I think different dynamics apply there (but any thought welcome ofcourse). An example is a hand I played in a $5/10 5-max game on PP. I have A4o on the button and open with a raise. SB is reasonably tight and 3-bets. Postflop he is typically an aggressive player, who often plays hands fast. BB folds. Flop is 9 7 4 r He bets, I raise, he calls. Turn is a 3. He check-calls my bet. River is a 6. So final board 974 3 6. He checks, I bet and he calls. My hand is good. Thoughts / comments? Thanks, Regards | ||

| Personally, I'm a proponent of these thin bets. I think the gain is often more than just the intrinsinct value of the bet. It's not a pleasant task to be up against an opponent who is constantly putting you to a decision on the river. This time he calls with ace-high and loses to bottom pair. Next time he might call with 2nd pair and lose to top pair. After a while, this can become mentally exhausting especially in a short-handed game. Tilt, frustration and confusion all set in at the prospect of facing these relentless bets from you time and time again. Of course you might hit a stretch where he's guessing right. This is where mental toughness comes into play. IMO- | ||

| Seems like you got good value out of your hand based on the texture of your opponent! Roy on 24.
