for our cars at the Bellagio. I have just played and close to a 10 hour session and Roy put in a long session as well. While talking I told Roy I informed him that I go by one theory when I am stuck and get close to even. Lets say within 100 dollars or so. I informed Roy that if you ever go down again you will never get out again so I quit. I do this after 6 or so hours as well. Roy informed me that you are playing results. He informed that if you are ready to play it should not mater how close to even you are. He advised if you are able to play your best game you should play. My problem my game starts to tail off after 6 hours or so although I still have an earn up to 11 hours. It may not be a bet or so an hour but it is an earn. Also the next day it helps me psycologically when I start to play and I would rather try to make and earn at the highest rate when I am stuck. Roy is right theoretically but I think I am right pscologically and verses earning power that is because your ablities do not stay the same as when your begin but deteriate over time. Buy the way I do like that new red fire truck you have. I just did not know they made fire trucks that big you may as well be driving a semi. Laugh. For all of you out there let me know what you guys think.

Hi Hosh!

I think Roy is right :-). That said.....I did say that you should make decisions based on psychological value...However you will be better of if you are mentally strong enough to take the swings and still remain stable.....You gotta be mentally tough to play poker for a living!

Glad you liked my firetruck :-)...I couldn't afford one when I was young!

Hosh: I think it wasDavid Sskalansky who wrote about the error of this way of thinking.
It has to do with your game, the game you are playing in and lookking over a much larger statistical landscape.

I think we all have counted getting close to even as a win and quit while "ahead", but the key is how much your game falls off after 6 hours. It may be that this is a good move for you due to the fall off in your game. I think there are some essays in "Inside the Poker Mind" which are useful for all of us in making the simple point that the next hour you play is the next hour you play. Whether that hour is now or a week from now is irrelevant.
If you believe that you will dig back into a hole, however, your play may make that belief come true. If your decision is based upon a belief that you are no longer playing your best, your table image is not the best for your style of play and you simply don't have it, then leaving makes sense, but simply leaving because you are close to even makes no more sense than leaving while ahead to lock up a win.

I find that when I come back from being down, I have a strong table image at that moment and like to play longer to take advantage. Most times, after a big comeback, I will go on to have a decent win for that session.
