| I have recently started reading up on 7 Card Stud and playing at low limits online. For my first month I was able to turn my 100 into 1200 at the 1-2$ limit tables at Planet and Paradise. This weeek i have jumped up to 2-4 limit and haven't had a winning session yet. I averaged 15$ and hour at the 1-2 limit, verus -30$/ hour at the 2-4 ring 2 3-4 hour long sessions. SO my question, what the hell's going on? Shold i drop back down to 1-2 limit or is it all in my head? I feel like i am playing my same game as I have been for the past month. My other request is for advice on the best way to keep track of cards in 7-card stud? IS there like a drill i could do on my own to try and boost my memory? I do well for the first round or 2, but then I just can't remember all of the earlier cards that came out that I didn't think specifically mattered at the time. How do the pros do it? I just only have enough mental energy to either focus on the pot odds and the chances of me making my hand or remembering all of the cards that have come out. How can i do both!?!? Please advise before i loose back all of my money! blachjakk | ||

| hi...i play online poker too...i play 50/1 at paradise but was told by a pro that the ante structure at the 1/2 game is almost unbeatable. the 2/4 game has alot of bluffers and you have to become a bluffer and be more aggressive to play with those types.....not that i know much about the game but i am just telling you what i have been thru myself...also on the card tracking....online you have a chat box....what i do sometimes is write down what the cards were that came out.....28A4KK...then next round and so on...the erase at the end...just a pointer and gl in poker...pokerprincess | ||

| Try arranging the folded discards in numerical order or straight. and or by suit example: On fifth street I know that there has been a spade flush and a 9 hi straight folded as well as two K's ,a ace and a duplicated 8. so I know that the K's are somewhat dead as are the 8's . the A's are hampered as are the mid straights and spade flushes. With practice and a little work you can know what cards are live by looking at the converse of these. Before you know it you can see whats left in the deck by using the super power contained within your subconscience which will subtract what is gone and project what is left via your minds eye . Remember card reading skills are very importntant in on line poker yet they represent just one facet of your total poker skills Although they deserve developing you should not neglect the other facets of a superior players "game". Poker skill is like a picture window with card reading skill being just a pane. timmer | ||

| Now you are getting into my area of knowledge. The best way to remember cards is start with the highest cards. For example if you See A 99 5 2. Then if another 5 drops its easy to say to yourself A 99 55 2 and so on. Now you tell me that you play on line. Have some photo copies made with all the cards on them and just check them off. You do not have to memorize anything when you are at home. I guarentee your opponents are writting every card you have down. | ||

| Realize that you don't have to remember more than 8-10 cards. When you are sitting at a full 8 person table, say you lose half of the table on 3rd street (which you should if it is a skilled table)--there's 4 cards. If you lose another on 4th street--there's two cards. You don't need to remember your cards--they are in front of you. You also need to isolate important information, such as if it is down to you and two other players--are they going for flushes? How many of their suit came out? Or if you are going for a flush, how many of your suit came out? So far you have only had to remember six cards and at most two suits. If the remaining two players stay until 5th street and don't fold, they will more than likely be staying the rest of the hand, but if one other one folds, there are 3 more cards--a total of 9 cards, not hard to remember. Remember them in ascending order, as that is how we learn to count, so it is more natural. | ||

| Thanks everyone for your input. I finished that week off -300, but have since started keeping a pad of paper next to my computer while playing to keep track of the cards coming out...it seems to be getting easier to do and hopefully in short time, i will be able to track the measly 8-10 cards w/out it. This week has started off on the right track and I am half way back to recouping last weeks loss. I think that the 3 day break from playing that I took helped me cool off and regain some composure that I lost, it also gave me some time to revisit Slansky's 7-stud book. Its always good to get that info fresh in the back of the mind before sitting down to play. Thanks again for all of your comments, blachjakk | ||

| I had played bridge for thirty years before I EVER played a hand of poker. In bridge I would routinely be able to RECONSTRUCT all the hands of fifty two cards from the logic of the bidding and the play, so my memory is really just great for stud play without working very hard. I know that isn't what you wanted to hear, but the VERY most important upcard in stud is the third street card because it tells you so much about what COMPETENT players DON'T have. Think about it this way...if there is an 8 on third street it is dollars to donuts that NO one is playing pocket 88. So when ANOTHER player pairs his 8 doorcard on fifth or sixth street, he is very unlikely to have hit trips! and much more likely to have missed a straight or flush draw and think he can bluff you out! So remember the doorcards and trust your memory for the number of spades and whatever! I think it is cost benefit ratio that makes it more useful to remember the things that have the most value! Let me know if this works for you at info@pokerscene.com Smile and say Hi at the tables to LuckyOne, LuckyWon, LuckyToo, ScoopHL or LuckyGal | ||
