| I'm just getting into playing, I've played a few times before, but mostly nothing that I really thought about. Lately, I've been trying to play a little more seriously, nothing big (like 5, 10, 25 CENT games), but I want to learn more about good technique and strategy in the game. I mostly like to play holdem, but sometimes play a stud game or draw game, and I'd like any advice i can get especially on holdem. I've been looking online and have learned a lot, but I would appreciate advice on anything from "cardinal rules of poker" to some more difficult ideas like knowing what to bet based on the odds, knowing the odds, reading other players, etc. I would like it if you'd email me some ideas, but feel free to post them, too. | Read the following books: Gary Carson's "Complete Book of HE Poker" Lee Jones's "Winning Low Limit HE" Play for a while, then read: David Sklansky's "The Theory of Poker" Try to get a home game started or play the microlimits on-line. Read and post questions to this forum, 2+2, and RGP. Jeff | ||

| The books Jeffery mentions are good, also try S&M "Hold em for Advanced Players". But only after you read the other two HE books. You might want to open an account online, deposit $200 and try some .50/1 games. They're pretty soft, but if you're new they'll probably be a challenge for you. Probably more challenging then your home games in any case. They were when I was new. Ed | ||
