As a few of you know, i've recently invested in some starter holdem books (Lee Jones, Lou Krieger ETC) and have been playin low limit structured and tourney holdem. I am pleased to say that with the exception of a couple of bumps along the way, I have achieved a reasonable amount of succes in quite a short time. I have now increased my initial 50 bucks to 800 on single table tourney's and 2/4 to 3/6 games. And have been regularly finishing in the top 20 in multi table tourneys with 50 to 200 people.
Whilst I enjoy winning at this level and I'm not sure how I will go at higher levels. The thing is, I feel like i've stopped learning much by winning at the moment, Just playin a reasonable tight aggresive game! - I think I need to get alongside more experienced players on a regular basis, not just on the occasions that i've manage to get down to the final tables at large tourney's.
When getting to the final tables of a multi table tourny (where there are some very good players) I find myself totally out of my depth and finishing low down in the money.
I know to succeed, I need to start concentrating more on the emotional and pschycological side of the game as I think I am weak against the more experienced players.
Similar to Tyler I was intending to purchase "Theory of Poker" and join the online poker school. Maybe some more advanced Holdem books.
As alway's I don't want to do anything before I consult the forum as in the past the information has been invaluable.
Do you think i should just go get my feet wet and be prepared for my stack to go through an initial hammering or should I put in the study first before moving up to more challenging games?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks
Harry

Harry its fine to get your senses refreshed by jumping into a middle limit game and just be sure to play to your best and see how things go..and yes definitely buy in to higher tournies ..Many players go up and down its quite natural..Keep testing the waters ...
Just be sure to not make decisions on your progress by winning or losing in just that one game you partake of..Always ask did i make the right decisions to the best of my knowledge...
I strongly now suggest that you have the basics down to invest in the masterpiece," Theory Of Poker " as well as the Poker Essays books 1 & 11 & 111.....
Jim Brier co authored a great middle limit holdem book.. BUY IT...
Bob ciaffone wrote an excellent omaha book..BUY IT...
Dave Sklansky wrote a masterpiece tourney book...BUY IT..

I'm sorry but I didn't hear you mention Caro?

Experience and study are the way to advance.

If you enjoy reading poker material more power to you.

I look forward to Cardplayer magazine and I like Roy, Danny, and Phil.

I joined Poker School online (for a month) and I got a lot out of it.

Mike Caros audio lessons and quizes confirmed that I am a poker force to be reckoned with.

Houseguest starring Phil Hartman and Sinbad is a very funny movie.

It's not TV... it's HBO.

I hope I have been of help.

Regards,

Jonathan Kerr

And I'm out.
