The tournement was an online freeroll tournement.

There are 13 players left, I'm 11th. Top 10 get paid
Blinds are 600/1200.
I was in the small blind wtih 5000.
6 players at the table.
An early position player limps (14000), a mid position (4600) raises to 2400.
Seeing all the money on the table, and knowing that the mid player was tight, but didn't go all in, I put him on a/10 or better, but certainly not a/k. I knew there was over 5400 on the table, I went all in with my a/q.

Turned out I was the dog with him showing 9/9 and winning.

Good play / bad play?

In my humble opinion a bad play.

That close to being in the money I would sit tight and wait for the final table to be set. I would only have made that call with AA, KK and maybe QQ. Then when the final table I could loosen up a bit and go for some chips - well aware that the real money is finishing 1st or 2nd.

Another thing, in your post you only seem to focus on putting the raisor on a hand. What about the limper with 14000 chips? He could hold a really strong hand - but slowplaying it hoping to get callers from the smaller stacks at the table. He has the chips to risk an unfortunate flop (a play I could easily make in that situation).

Also, he could hold a hand (e.g. a small/medium pair) that he is willing to call you on (as he has chips to take a beat and would chance it to eliminate players and collect chips for the final table).

And then, there is also the BB. He could also hold a strong hand or at least hand that he will take his chances on. Worst case, 2-3 players will call your A-Q...

I know, even KK is a not a good hand if you see ghosts and fear that someone holds AA (faint heart never won fair lady) or start thinking "any two can win" so I am not taking any chances. But in this particular situation - so close to the final table and the money - I would definitely not have made that play.

Best regards
Big C
