What is the easiest way to learn odds?

Should i sit down and memorize the odds in super/systems?

Are there any books that really explain how you calculate odds or do
you just have to do it yourself?

thanks for all your help,

Tyler

As for learning odds, I wouldn't make it out to be more difficult than it is. Also, I don't recommend "memorizing." Rather, understand the simple logic behind it and it will become easy. For example, if you are playing Hold'em and are drawing to a flush with one card to come, you know that you have 9 "outs" out of 46 unknown cards. Thus, you have about a 1 in 5 chance, also expressed as 4 to 1 against.

Also, as far as odds go, it's critical to always know how much money is in the pot. If, in this same instance, the bet is $20, and you know the pot has more than $100, you have an easy decision to make.

In short, constantly be figuring out how many outs you have and always know how much money is in the pot and you should be on your way. -Greg Dinkin

You need to get "The Hold'em Odds Book" by Mike Petriv. It contains numerous tables and shows you how to compute odds. It is available through CardPlayer, Conjelco, Gamblers Book Club, and so forth.

Lets save you a lot of time. Once you learn how the odds of hands such as AK verses 22, AA verses QQ, AJ Verses KQ, AJ verses KK, Ak verses QJ, AJ verses KT, KK verses T9. You have the basics remember that each of theses situations gets adjusted for the number of players in the pot. Once the flop comes out we use what we call coeffiecent odds. For example lets say you have 98 and the flop comes JT2 you have 8 outs times the coefficient of 4 the turn card and 2.2 for the river card. So lets say you are going to stay till the river after the flop the percentage to hit the hand is 32 percent. or about 18 percent on the river. This is simple we can quickly do this during the hand. I make it simple by using 2 on the river it will be close enough. Now that the easy part is out of the way you can learn how to defeat players. I am not saying just watch them I am saying build strategies to defeat them. Some players such as I can have the best strategies but execution is the key. Sometimes where I have deficincies. You watch close in order to build startegies, thats the key to being a top player. Sometimes you will have a hand like 88 and the flop comes down. K32 and the opponent checks to you but by the way he moves when the flop hits you check it back to him. Not even betting saving yourself from a 100 percent check raise. Execution and players are the Keys. So much for odds. Play well and have fun!!!

In my opinion Lee Jones explains working out odds yourself in the most simplest way i've come accross yet. Also his book is excellent, i'm on my third read of it already! I think it's better to find a way to calculate odds yourself rather than memorizing tables. What with memorizing starting hand requirements, play on the flop / turn and river, how many bets have been put into the pot, plus how your opponents are playing. I don't think i've got enough brain cells left for odds as well - hehe.

Good luck
Harry!

I'm with Harry. Lee Jone's Winning Low Limit Holdem. 2nd read for me. I have trouble with math and the way he explained it helped me tremendously. Now if I can just learn discipline.

Recards,

Jason
