| In low-limit games, is it generally a good idea to raise on the flop with top pair good/mediocre kicker? what if the bettor is immediately on your right? mark | ||

| I think raising preflop, on the flop and on the turn is effective in low-limit. Chasing out as many opponents as possible before the fearsome river where you are likely to get drawn out if your are up against 3-4 callers. If the original preflop-raiser is to the right I like to wait with raising until the turn which usually gets callers from both left and right on the flop when calling and chases them out on the turn leaving you heads-up with right side raiser, who might check on the river so that you can choose whether you should check or bet. | It is hard to provide an accurate answer to your question because it depends upon on so many other factors like how many opponents you have, the previous betting action, the texture of the board, and so forth. In general, it is frequently correct to raise a flop bet having top pair especially when your top pair is vulnerable to overcards. You want to make it expensive for the other players to chase you. When the bettor is on your immediate right, raising becomes even more attractive since you are forcing the rest of the field to call two bets cold to take off a card. In our book, Middle Limit Holdem Poker, Bob Ciaffone and I have an entire chapter on playing top pair under our section covering flop play. | ||
