very loose game-10 handed game-over 5 callers pre-flop every hand-is it still worth it to raise pocket aces,Kings and queens in this type of game?

Hi Doug

Yes...you should raise for value...while having many callers will reduce the chances of you winning...when you do win you will win a larger pot. Raising may cause some players to fold hands in which they are correct in calling one bet with...if it doesn't at least you have reduced their price.

Raise it up :-)

I used to play a lot of low limit poker where you always had many players taking a flop. I found it to be very profitable to keep raising preflop with my premium hands like AA, KK, and QQ. Having more opponents makes it harder for your hand to hold up unimproved, but when it does hold up you win a much larger pot as a result. Some of the biggest pots I ever won was when my big pocket pairs held up against a large field all the way to the river.

Doug,

As the noted repliers above have already indicated raising big pairs is almost certainly more profitable than not. This does not necessarily mean one cannot at first limp, knowing there is a good chance someone yet to act will raise themselves, allowing you to "limp-reraise"- a tactic that can be at least considered occasionally. But the short answer is YES. Results from many a simulation result also confirm this.

Medium pairs such as 99, TT, offer a different theoretical argument- one which I am not prepared to ignite here.

Regards.
