Tournemant Question?, Hatchet Harry, 4. Sep 2002 17:11

I'm currently on a break in a 140 seat NL Holdem tourney and sittin in 12 position outta 21 players remaining. I've played relatively tight all the way through. However for the last 20-30 hands i've had absolutely nothing worth even creepin in on.
There's alot of all in action at the final 3 tables, and i'm stuck on just how to play myself outta the rut. Do I have to start being a bit bolder, i can probably steal a couple of pots but I'm gonna get put all in most of the time and either have to call on crap or get out. Alternatively I could just sit it out and hope the good cards come back. Payout is for the last 9 places only. What would be your advice?

Any help would be much appreciated for future situations like this.

Cheers
HH

very briefly i suggest you wait for the good hand and preferably in late position being first in and get your money in..
otherwise play tight and get in the money above all else..once your in the money you`ll just have to use your judgement..because i`m not there observing the trends etc..
Above all else dont second guess your decisions...Theres many and ors at this stage..
Attack tight players and short stacks especially.

I recently played in a pot limit Omaha HiLo game at PP. I had to be at work at 11 so I had to stop playing. When I left, there were 70 players and I was probably in the top 40% with my stack. When I got home that night, I checked to see where I finally finished. Imagine my surprise when I saw the number 12 by my name. I checked the time and determined that I had survived almost an hour without playing. My advice would be to wait. The player in second place could be done if he challenges the first place player and loses. By playing tight, you give yourself the chance to finish in the money. But, when you get your hand, you have to be willing to play it.

Managed to steal a good few hands after the break (obviously i was noted to be a rock) to keep a steady position - Unfortunately the money only went to 9 places and I went iall-in 10th place against a loose player who was on the button. I had AQ he had AJ and he outdrew me on the river - LOL - what a lovely game this is...... But thx again for the advice.

Regards
