No-Limit Omaha hi-lo 8/b pre-flop raise, Alan Thompson, 3. Sep 2002 12:21

I was recently playing in an No-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8/b game (home game). There were four players and I was under the gun and was dealt AAJJ (one ace suited). I bet one chip & was immediately raised by one chip, which was called by the third player & then raised one chip more by the fourth player (8 chips in pot now). I then bet 20 chips in a move to win the pot right there OR to narrow the field to two players at most. Everyone folded and I incurred the wrath of the players who said that I had made this game “unfriendly” & who then said I raised with “crappy cards”, etc.

In my opinion, since I read the players correctly & got them to fold it’s really hard to argue that I made a wrong play. Nevertheless, what is your opinion regarding whether or not it would normally be wise to put in a big pre-flop raise with AAJJ (one ace suited) vs 4 players in No-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8/b. I know that you normally want to play low cards that have a chance to win high & I had no chance to make a low hand, but my thoughts were that this was an excellent starting “high” hand & since noone is ever sure of making low at an 8/b game, then a strong starting high hand like this should be aggressively played if doing so will eliminate everyone or at most leave it heads-up (in essence to make it foolish for potential low hands to continue further). By the way, the person to my left had KKxx, I’m unsure what third person was holding, and the fourth player held A234 (unsure if ace suited).

Any thoughts anyone has on this scenario would be greatly appreciated.

the no limit verzsion of omaha8 favours all in plays with your holding.. the reason is that thier low might never materialize. It creates a very costly scenerio for anyone who wishes to call and of course they figure you to have A`s in this case..Anyone holding k`s also is drawing to 2 outs if thier live in the deck and i would automatically assume perhaps i`m drawing to one out
home games are more for fun.. so if they bitch about the play you made then why the no limit format..
from the way your aquaitances responded i would say they know little about the game principles.
