Another $30-$60 Problem, Jim Brier, 31. Aug 2002 10:33 | ||

| This is a 9-handed $30-$60 game at the Bellagio. I am in the small blind with the 6h-6d. It is folded to the cutoff who opens with a raise. The cutoff is a loose, aggressive player. The button folds. I 3-bet because the cutoff is probably on a steal and I want to eliminate the big blind. The big blind folds. The cutoff calls. There is $210 in the pot and two players. The flop is: 8s-6s-3h, giving me middle set. I bet and my opponent calls. There is $270 in the pot. The turn is the Jc. I bet and my opponent calls. There is $390 in the pot. The river is the Td. I bet. My opponent now raises to $120. What do I do? I will post the results later. | ||

| Hi Jim, Clearly there's too much money in the pot to give it up at this point so i guess my response is either raise or call ; a raise gets me nothing because if he's bluffing he'll probably fold,but in any event if he re-raises me I'm back to square one,therefore I vote to merely call. | ||

| Hi Jim Since he is a loose aggressive player...it is tough to put him on JJ or TT...He could have Q9 and have made a straight...but if he has that hand he deserves to win a big one.... He might have 88 and be on a slowplay. It is a tough hand to read...but he fact that he is loose aggressive would lead me to tend to raise. If he was tight I would be MUCH less likely to raise. If I get reraised I do understand I have a tough decision to make! Tough question! Roy Cooke on 31. Aug 2002 10:33 Jim Brier wrote: > This is a 9-handed $30-$60 game at the Bellagio. | Pop him back. I think he has JT and will pay you off. You probably would have been raised on the flop if he had JJ or TT. I'd get my money in with the set since he likely thinks you have an overpair to the board. | ||

| I just called. I won as my opponent showed a J-T for a rivered two pair. In retrospect, I played this like a wimp. With an overpair on the flop that later turned into a set on the turn or the river, he would have raised my flop bet. There is such a vast array of hands that this guy would try to steal with, that two pair is far more likely than a set or a straight. Thanks for the responses. | ||

| Isn't always true when we clam up on a hand, you wind up missing bets. I was an advocate of checking and calling, but I think I underestimated the possibility of two pair. | ||
