Raise from the blind?, Charles, 30. Aug 2002 19:26 | ||

| For the past three years I have been playing $5-10 (5) max holdem. After taking Roy Cooke advise and dropping back to $3-6 and getting my game and mental attitude together I'm doing much better. The one part of my game I feel less sure of is " how to handle big hands from the blinds?" as I'm in the blinds at lease 40% of the time I would like to feel more secure in my play from the blinds. It seems to be that raises are only to get more money in the pot when done from the blinds as few will flod after puttin in one bet. I think I play a little passitive in the blinds, but I'm not for sure that this is the best play. Anybody want to kick the subject around? Best hands, Charles | ||

| pairs against multiple players need to be played cautiously after the flop if many chase to the river if all they have to do is check call all the way.. You dont mention how they play post flop and thats am important part of the game for determining your tactical play.. If many are playing preflop as you mention then connectors greatly increase in value and pairs devalued.. your opponents play a critical part as to your next move.... the bueaty of blind play is if the guy will bet if you check behind you, you get most likely to be the cutoff or button if theres no raise. its a given that any 3-6 game is a family oriented game.. I have had some massive drawouts in the 4-8, 5-10 game I play and theres dick you can do..once i raise they simply check call thereafter all the way to the end..My two pr, set, or straight dont stand up. its a fact if they catch any piece of the flop they`re stayin in and decnt hands dont stand up by the time 6 players see the river.. jim on 30. | Hi Charles Raising from the blinds almost never elimiates palyers and therefor elimates reasons to raise (To gain position and reduce the field). also since you are always out of position it seldom will get you a free card. there for I raise very tight out of the blinds if there is a field calling the bet. | I don't do alot of raising from either blind, except to reraise what may be a late position steal. Yes I'll often raise with AA KK or AKs, and sometimes with a medium pair or suited connectors if there are alot of players. I also sometimes raise against a small field with JTs or T9s mostly for deception. I reason that why should I let everyone know I have a big hand. Now if I like the flop (rags, top pair, overpair, two pair, or even a good draw with overcards) I have the option to play for a checkraise which might actually get some hands to fold that could beat me which would have stayed for the extra pre-flop bet. | ||
