Hand question for Roy, Boylermaker, 26. Aug 2002 13:26 | ||

| Here's I hand I think I may have butchered...your thoughts would be appreciated... I am in BB with AQo. A couple of limpers. Loose player (and sometimes loose raiser) on button raises. SB folds. I call. 2 limpers call. Flop is A -Xs-Xs. No straight draw. Checked to limper on cutoff who bets. Button raises. Button tends to be passive on the flop, and agressive on the turn with good hands, and vice versa with bad hands. I 3-bet. First limper folds. Cutoff calls. Button calls. My thoughts are the cutoff is on spades (as she often open bets her draws), and the button could be on anything from AK to junk, but I'm leaning towards junk. BTW, I have no spades. Turn is K, for a board of A-Xs-Xs-Kh. I bet. cutoff calls, button now raises. Hmmm. AK maybe after all?? I fold. Cutoff calls. River is a blank. Cutoff checks, button bets. Cutoff calls and shows K2s. Button mucks. Thoughts? | ||

First if I thought I could have folded any of the limpers I would have rerasied before the flop. Since you did not (and you very well might have made the right play) I think your play on the flop was fine. In making laydowns like you did on the turn......I try to get a good feel of my opponent....is he the type to make this play a lot? If he is not and would not think that he had you beat with a worse hand than your then I would do the same as you and fold. It is a funtion of poker that you will lay down the best hand at certain times. If you never lay down the best hand then you are paying off way too much. When it happens...review the decision and see if there are any lessons you can learn fron it...if the decision still makes sense to you in hindsight...put the hand behind you mentally and emotionally.....then play the next hand.
