| Hi Roy, I know you usually play at the Bellagio and therefore not run into this circumstance,When the jackpot in a jackpot game gets large, over 20-25 thousand,I make very definite changes in my starting hand strategies,I wonder if you could expand and perhaps quantify what strategy changes are proper. | ||

Hello You are right...I do not run into this issue in the games I play. Consequently, I have never done any work on this issue. Intuitively I would play marginal hands that have a chance of winning the jackpot. Depending on the limits, I would not go chasing the jackpot with trash hands. The lower the limit the more I would chase. Part of the value of jackpot games is that your opponents chase the jackpot. Roy Cooke

Ex. Fixed limit 3-6$ online, you're on the button with AK . MP player calls everyone folds to you who raise. BB and MP player calls. Flop comes A 10 9 rainbow. Check-check you bet both calls. Turn x. check-check you bet when suddenly BB raises. My thoughts are if always calling the check-raise to showdown on the river is profitable in the long run. In this case when you have top pair ( not necessarily A) with strong kicker. I tend to do that as long as there aren't any straight or flush draws or pair on the table. One don't get intimidated enough to fold. He has in worst case trips then two pairs which I may beat if I improve my hand on the river. What does pros mostly do when they get check-raised.? Regards Andy

If your opponent is the sort that never bluffs and would only raise with aces-up or better the best play would be to fold. If your opponent bluffs a lot and would make that play with a lot of hands you could beat, then calling or possibly reraising would be the better play. Roy Cooke >

| i tend to downplay the checkraises on the flop. sometimes seems like a cheap way to pull of a checkraise bluff. maybe if they had a powerful hand they would have waited till the turn to try to pull off some more money. on 26.
